These drawings, in all their variety, share the same working process. The starting point is an intuitively drawn, single line that forms a figure. For me, this figure is rather like a raw piece of stone in which the sculptor sees a form, even before he carves it out. I look to see which bulges and hollows lie hidden in the contour of the figure, so that this undefined, empty space can be made plastic.
